weird ? How they sound

The nice thing with internet is, when you look for a specific music instrument you can found someone who play of it on YouTube as much weird as the instrument is...
Lets jump right into it.

Hurdy gurdy
This instruent as been a favorite of mine since I discovered it. To describe it, it's a kind of violin build with a wheel un a lute frame. It was in first time a really long instrument played by 2 players and reserved th the church. when organ's become more popular in church, luthier come wit the idea to create a smaller version and become so popular than the started to use luth frame to produce them. with time the instrument lost his nobility and become the instrument of blinds and beggar to slowly disappear, until nowadays where renaissance fair got this instrument back to life.

The video i chose is something that i'm pretty sure could be in a video-game. It's filling the silence and sound like desperation. it's a played by Andrey Vnogradov, named Dark Medieval Ballad. Hurdy-Gurdy, Organ Drone and drum. Fev. 2020

Dulcimer
This name was surprisingly familiar to me without knowing why. I discovered afterward that it's originally a medieval string instrument that you use with some kind of drum sticks... That thing said, why those i see look completely different? long body, only 4 string, holes on both side of the neck...
apparently, it exist an american instrument with the same name, more correctly named Appalachian Dulcimer. The name is derived from the mountain chains from where it came, the Appalaches.

Searching a song for this instrument is really funny because it seem easy to interpret any genre of folk music with it. I also have the impression that there is more tutorial online than song recorded...
I chose a song from the channel Dulcimus called Black Mountain Rag... ...mostly because it's well record and the song is good. A lots of them seem to not know how tu record frankly or the quality is way too bad for my taste. That's why...

Theremin
I love old horror movie. It's kitsch and they absolutely abuse of the theremin. I found it sad that as much it's well know, really few tend to experiment whit it. Apparently, it's insanely hard to get one and this make it more hard to master. most of the time, Theremin user tend to stay in ballads songs or a slow register, but i found few exception like Rob Scallon who made a metal song with it, but I can't found the full song on YouTube for you , so I opted for a guy called Mezerg who use it to do a techno. It's not the only one I found doing this, but so far, he is one of the best I hear. Also, I will definitively cover what he do in the futur, he is awesome.

The song in question is called Welcome Theremin, publish in 2019. enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed it as mush as I do. I will probably cover the topic more in the near futur, so tell me, which instrument you want me to cover in the futur?

feel free to send me a message in the comment section!
On that said,

In search of inspiration

Like a more growing part of the society, I'm one of those who love top table role playing games, and with the time, I become what we call a Dungeon master, or game master depending witch who you speak with.

Tonight, I will present you some bands who inspire me the most in creation of those rpg's games.

Myrath
This band is quite interesting in itself. From Tunisia, They play Metal heavily influenced by the local folkloric music (Desert kind, I don't really know the name) This band is up since 2001 and was know before under the name X-Tazy. They have 5 albums under this name which the last one, name Shehili out in 2019.

Personally I herd about them around 2012 or 2014 with the album Tale of the Sands. Myrath always inspired me to create tales of forgotten civilisation where heroes balance their will against madness and despair... ...and obviously adventure un desert.

Merciless Time, by Myrath. 2011

Heilung
This one have been introduce to me pretty recently by my friend Dom. This band is an oddity on the musical sphere, I never see a band playing such a thing. Tribal, ancestral, I don't really know hot to call it, the sound and look like they're right from the bronze age playing on bones and beating shields. The only thing missing is a torn SPQR emblem.

I dont thing I need to explain why it inspire me further. Queue the video.

Alfadhirhaiti Live, by Heilung.2015

Worldclock
One of the most interesting thing to do as a Game master, is to trow light in a new world, but, what I love the most about it, is the shadow. And what is the most suitable for writing about the underworld than Dark Ambiant music... I discover whats was this kind of musics and the peoples who create it  few years ago. Before that, it was not something I considered to use to create outside of an Halloween setting. I learn to appreciate it while writing daily to increase my skill's in storytelling. It's like having a pose button on scenery I have in mind. With that music I can imagine every details of a crime scene to the smallest drop of blood, and strangely enough, all in tone of grey.

Worldclock is one of my favorite artist in this genre, and the album Herald is the one I listen the most. I love it so mush that I... I was about to say that I was looking to buy it, but it's done. I'm waiting for it to come. It's impulsive, I know, but it's the 6th or 7 time I told me the same thing, so now it's done.

Bell Rigning 1, by Worldclock.2017

That's it for tonight, I hope yo like it and inspire you as much as it does with me. If you have any suggestion on this topic, I really want to see them on the comment section.

Twitch musician

I was looking for some music to write about when my computer sent me a notification telling me that a streamer is about to go live. without thinking, i click on it, closing it... Then I realize that is exactly what I want to cover. Those streamer are not the kind of thing you put in background to make noise or distract you from the silence. They are here to have fun, they love interacting with those who listen, they are passionate. How could I not talk about them...

Supershigi
She's te who inspired this article. A compositor, musician who love to go behind his keyboard to play and sing, and what a lovely voice. She's really talented and so far, every stream I see of her was heart touching. She have a sweet and really kind  personality. Also, I really loved the improvisation with the chat, creating a song about this question: what if flower could fart...

Stronger than you, a Garnet 's song from Steven Universe. By Supershigi. 2015

ThatVoilinChick
Ha! this women is really interesting. She have an up-beating personality and definitively some real good skills to improvise with the songs asked by the chat. She's playing in a variety of genre, Pop, Rock, Celtic, and much more.

Zombie, a The Cranberries song, by ThatVoilinChick. 2019

The8BitDrummer
This crazy mad lad have so much energy that he could aliment a power plant just with his laugh. He is the kind of people who seem to live in another time-speed. By that, I mean that he is so fast and so well timed with the hardest tempos, it's simply incredible. He play in a lots of style, mostly those uptempo like rock, metal, drum and bass, dubstep... ...you see where this is going. He obviously love performing challenging songs, and some of them are purely hilarious.

Cyberpunk music

Yeah, I didn't search far for the title. I was i the mood for heavy techno music tonight and so, it will be the theme of this article tonight.

So, to give a quick definition of Cyberpunk music, it need to qualify to 1 thing. Since Cyberpunk is a visual and literary genre, it need to convoy the same idea and energy of the genre. Those topic are technology, industrial and dystopia. Basically, a mix of Industrial techno and Dark Techno...

FCKD, by Hyper. 2019
This song is what get me into it tonight. I was looking for inspiration of all kind for drawing or writing and nothing really come to my mind since this song pop up. It really come out of nowhere, I was listening to ambient soundtrack and LowFi when it change for a Cyberpunk 2077(C-2077 for short) inspired playlist. It was what i needed to get me out of my blank page .

the song is from an album called Cyberpunk E.P. and it's available on Bandcamp.

One Shot One Kill, by Nikki Kaelar aka Varien. 2019
I really like this one, because, we can ear different genres in the mixing. Rap lyrics, an inch of scratch D.j. , a segmentation of the song like hip-hop or pop music, and ofcourse it's sound like 10 000 volt right through my ears.  There is not much information about this song except gossip that it will be features in the futur game of C-2077.

I was about tu put the song Pusher, by Hateclub, but the link died on me ant I couldn't found any information relevant about the song or D.j. Anyway, you got the title, that's a beginning. I let you search this one....

Distor, by Toutant. 2016
If the artist name seem a bit odd to you, it's because it's easier to pronounce it in french. The song in question can sound a bit more generic than the others song i posted so far, but if I  there, that's because it's genuinely inspiring. I hesitated with this song and another called Ponderous by the same guy, but Distor was the first I found so I stayed wit it. If you like what he do, go on his YouTube page and subscribe. He si under 1K and deserve to be know.

Alright, that's about it...
There will be no drawing what so heaver, I kinda suck to draw tonight...
anyway, I hope you liked it and like always,

Sound City

I was looking back on article I've been making recently and this whole thing about videos series and movie give me some ideas. I have a bunch of movies and documentary about musics, bands, artists, and events that I love to watch and buy. It was just a mater of time that I will share it with you guy.

So, what's is Sound city?
To summarize it, it's the story of a recording studio where legend of music come to create some of the best albums made, but what made it the best place to record also sign is end. During this documentary, we follow stories of this place through memories of staff members and musical legend like Neil Young, Stevie Nick from Fleetwood Mac, and Dave Grohl from Nirvana and foo fighters who's also the director of this documentary.

The documentary in itself is really interesting, I love the editing and how and how they introduce every member they interviewed. It can be long for those who are not into this kind of thing, it's a solid 2h30 with really few break.

Lets queue the trailer!

The Albums
As you can see, I got the album after purchasing because the version of the documentary I got didn't come together. I don't think there is a box set of it for now. I'm really disappointed by the case, it's in Cardboard, the disk is really hard tu pull out of it, the corner deteriorate really fast and it fit too tight in CD's tower.

Well, at least the case dosent represent what's inside, I And by that, I mean the music. This Album is freaking good. The quality is obviously gorgeous and the song they pull out are really nice. The whole Album Is a huge collaboration to commemorate the studio, the memories and the new location of the equipment into the hand of Grohl.

My article is getting long, so I gonna place only one two song here. It was not an easy task to chose a song to represent the whole album, because every song have his own identity, according to who's played it. So I decided to go with one of my favorites.

Time Slow Down. 2012-13
Featuring Dave Grohl, Tim Commerford, Chris Goss and Brad Wilk. The song in itself is hard to describe. It's like everyone in the band played with a different personality instead of a collective and for some reason it work. It's really impressive.

A Trick With No Sleeve. 2012-13
Yeah, I could not talk about this album without this song. It's probably the most memorable of the whose album. we hare nor far from what the Foo Fighters do in general with the special touch of Alain Johannes. It remember a bis of one of his song called Luna A Sol. This song featured Grohl, Josh Home and Alain Johannes.

That it for now, If you like it, make sure to share this articles.

Bonne St-Jean!

The 24 of June is a special day for my nation, not only it's the Saint John the Baptist day, but also the day of creation of our nation. Every year, we commemorate this day with a bonfire, fireworks, music and a lots of alcool. So, today, I will share with you 3 song that represent well this day... ...well, at least for me.

Little disclosure here, we are a francophone nation, so all the song are in french...

Y'a pas grand chose dans l'ciel a soir, by Kermess. 1999
This song have define The St.-Jean party of my teenager years and young adulthood. Most of my friends of this time, if not all only listen to metal and punk music, and this was one of the song they played the most in every of those party.

J'entends Frapper, by Michek Pagliaro. 1972
For some reason, every-time I herd this sont on a St.-Jean party, It was around a giant bonfire while I was drunk as hell... This song always hit me in the core, and because of the chorus, I've made some of my worst mistake in those party. Roughly translated, the lyrics say:
''I herd knocking! Finally my chance have come, I'm happy to hear that nothing is hover''

My dead drunk self got slap a couple of time because I was trying to flirt with some girls who was not into it.

Gens du pays, by Gilles Vigneault. 1975
This song could have been our National Anthem, IF the Referendum about the independence of our nation was victorious. I will not expand further in this drama tho...

Long story short, it's a birthday song for the nation and if you came celebrate your birthday in our province we will probably sing you the chorus of this song, if not the traditional happy birthday song. It's a song full of passion and love dub with a beautiful poetry.

Alright! Hope you liked it and wish you ''Bonne St-Jean Baptiste'' like we say in french.

Just to let you know, I will not post anything tomorrow. not that i party hard, but because I think I will take the journey off for myself.

On that, See Ya!

Well, not that special, but i'll show you something that a lot of people don't appreciate, Covers !
