Dave Brubeck

In this foggy night, even if the darkness is sweet to me, i couldn't appease my mind. Looking for some rest, I chose to, once again, turn myself to music to found my way into the arms of Morpheus, and for that, jazz will be my ally. I know, It's not the working well right now, i'm still in front of my screen typing this. However, this give me the opportunity to share with you, te work of an artist that I appreciate, and which I build so many memory of me, writing, drawing, or just appreciating the present moment.

I bought my firs album of Dave Brubeck so many year ago that I surprise myself that the CD's is not scratched more than once. The albums, called Time Out, have been one of my first album I bought by myself I didn't even know who he was, all I knew at this time was that I loved jazz. Learning about this album can be really interesting, especially the musical theory. example, the first song of the album, Blue Rondo a la Turk, have a time signature of 9/8 who's somewhat rare, especially if you only listen to pop or rock, they're mostly all in 4/4. Also, they don't stay only in one tempo per song. This same song change to 4/4 by moment. The name of this song mean a lot of thing too, but i'll spare you the details for now.

Blue Rondo a la Turk, By the Dave Brubeck Quartet

I have memories of those song since my youngest ages, when my father where doing the accounting of his business in the dining room, late in the night. Those song where my lullaby. I tried my best to ear the faintest notes until it fade in my sleep. Take Five was probably one of his favorite song, because I keep a vivid memory of this Saxophone in the night.

Now that i know more of Dave Brubeck, I can only appreciate more his work. This pianist worked on albums since 1949 to 1964, creating thirty original albums. This is not including every other compositions he made past 1964.  One of these composition is So Lonely published in 2007 at the honorable age of 86. Time Out is the first album of jazz to sell a million copies, he become the face of the jazz of his time. Sadly, he past away in 2012, leaving a unique legacy of music who's seems doesn't aging.
